Marinara Grilled Cheese

Grilled Cheese... yes, please! This twist on a classic combines gooey melted cheese with a burst of tomato sauce ( why did when you can get it all in one bite!). Use any type of bread you prefer, but whole wheat is a more nutritious option. This is a perfect dish for a quick and easy lunch, snack or dinner. It's also a great way to use up any leftover bread or cheese.

Prep Time: 2 min

Cook Time: 5 min

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of whole wheat bread
  • Cheese (slices or shredded, variety of your choosing)
  • 3-4 tablespoons BTB Tomato Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions:

  1. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  2. Spread butter evenly over two pieces of bread and put on the skillet butter side down to begin cooking.

  3. Spread 1-2 tablespoons of tomato sauce evenly on the sides facing up.

  4. Place shredded or slices of cheese on top of the sauce.

  5. Cook the sandwich for 2-3 minutes, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt.

  6. Use a spatula to flip one side on the other cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until cheese is fully melted.

  7. Remove the sandwich from the skillet or griddle and let it cool.

  8. Cut the sandwich in small slices and serve with additional tomato sauce (cold or heated) for dipping.

Always cut into age appropriate pieces for your child prior to serving.
